Almost there

July 1, 2009

Today is the first day of the rest of my life.  Or rather, today is the last day before vacation <G>.

I am listening to the wind outside and thinking of all the things I need to do today.  Tomorrow (July 2nd) I fly to Spain for 2 weeks.  I can’t even believe I will be there … with my lovely 18 year old daughter.  This is her graduation gift.  And I (we) plan to have a blast.  We will be on a Trafalgar tour for 10 days.  Then we will spend a couple of days at the beach before flying home on the 16th.  Luckily for me, my daughter speaks Spanish fluently so she will be my companion as well as my translator.  Although in Barcelona they speak Catalan, which is different than the Castillian that Audrey has learned.  But she has been practicing it and she is pretty sure she will understand it enough to get along.

I’ll be posting pictures when I return.  Might even be able to post a few while I am there — *if* I can find a WiFi network and *if* I can get the WordPress app for my iPhone to let me!

So wish me luck and happy trails to all.

Melancholy

June 15, 2009

My daughter’s high school graduation (yesterday) has left me feeling somewhat melancholy today.  I am not sure why.  I guess there is something so final about high school graduation, isn’t there?

I mean, it’s a real milestone.  Like a transition somehow from kid to adult.  This, more than anything else, seems to have brought it home to me.  I keep seeing that little tiny girl on her first day of Kindergarten.  A group of us parents hung around and finally the teacher laughingly shooed us away and told us we could go home now.  We all laughed  … none of us were sure what to do.

Again … I am not sure what to do … carry on I guess.  They do grow up somehow …  in spite of us …

Prong-less

June 3, 2009

I am sitting under a lovely shade tree next to a fountain outside my office building eating my salad. I look down and realize one of the prongs on my plastic fork is missing. Hmmm … I thought my salad seemed “extra” crunchy….

Woodpecker

March 25, 2009

My annual woodpecker is back.  I heard him drilling this morning.  The little bastard (or offspring) return every Spring to make life miserable by reopening the hole to their preferred nesting spot above my front door .  Every year they drill through the previous year’s wood putty and reopen the hole and proceed to pull the pink insulation out and drop it on my front walkway in a show of total disrespect and disdain.  We are merely annoying neighbors they choose to ignore.

Why MY house you ask?  Good question.  Why right above the FRONT door and not the side or back of the house?  Better questions.  I have contemplated psychological counseling to try to reach an understanding of this phenomenon.

And don’t bother asking me why I don’t call an exterminator or pest control service.  The little demons are federally-protected.  I have tried hanging inflated baloons and weird scary objects outside their hole.  Makes no difference.  I would swear I hear them laughing inside my wall.

I am thinking of taking shooting lessons.  If I end up in the penitentiary I will write my memoirs … if they allow me out of the straight jacket long enough.

Not enough time!

March 8, 2009
Wow … too much to do today.  Church, then to Sam’s for STUFF, then to Lowe’s for flowers.  Sam has a cub scout meeting at 2:00. Then to the Apple Store to try to find out if Rebecca’s iPhone is recoverable. (doubtful)
Finally I am serving dinner to the EYC kids at 6:00 pm tonight.  Yikes!!
And on top of all this we just lost an hour.  Sheesh.

The day after

February 27, 2009

I still can’t believe my baby girl is 18 now.  And what a birthday.  We surprised her with a new MacBook laptop in the morning. ( I figured she was going to need one for college anyway.)  And then off to school she went thinking she was going to Kabuto for her favorite dinner of grilled shrimp and then home for birthday cake.  I took her to the gym at 6:00 pm and while we were gone her dad and sister decorated the house and all her friends showed up.  When we got home at 7:05 she walked in and….. SURPRISE!!!   LOL … I have never seen her look so stunned.  Everyone was laughing.  It was great.  We had dinner catered by Azteca (her favorite Mexican restaurant) and we decorated the house with red, yellow and green balloons, chili peppers and cactuses!  It was a blast.  I will be posting the pictures to my Facebook account.   :-D
